Meinheim is undergoing an exciting transformation. The municipality, shaped by its historic old town and the established structures of surrounding new developments, is set to evolve into a future-oriented, vibrant community by the year 2039. The starting point for our architectural project was an analysis of spatial conditions, social dynamics, and the needs of local residents. It became clear that while Meinheim possesses a strong identity, it lacks connecting elements between old and new—both architecturally and socially.

From this insight emerged the idea of initiating targeted impulses to foster togetherness and improve quality of life across generations. A central element of our design is the newly developed “Altheim,” which not only enables age-appropriate living but also serves as a social meeting point. It provides space for encounters, exchange, and communal activities—creating a new center for the elderly population without isolating them from village life.

In parallel, a public meeting place was conceived in the old town to serve as a cultural and social anchor. This space is intended to bring people together—regardless of age or background—and to reintegrate the old town into the consciousness of the village community. Through targeted architectural interventions, such as new pathways, green connecting axes, and shared-use spaces, the previously noticeable divide between old and new developments is being dissolved.
