The “Old School” in Haberskirch has stood in the center of the village since 1912. Generations of children learned to read, write, and do arithmetic here. The building has witnessed much over the years—and was actually slated for demolition. But in 2021, the city of Friedberg intervened and purchased the property.
The idea of turning it into a village community center has been around for some time. In the summer, a feasibility study was commissioned, which now provides the first concrete proposals. The results show: it’s possible—but not exactly cheap.
Because the building is under historic preservation, the planning process was carried out with particular care. Wherever possible, the rooms were preserved in their original form. Even old wall grids and architectural details were deliberately retained and incorporated into the new concept.
The goal: to create a place where the history of the building remains tangible—while also making room for new life in the village.
